The Nebraska State Fair will be held in Grand Island from August 22-September 1, 2014. Numerous informal STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education opportunities will take place at locations throughout the fair, designed to show fairgoers how STEM concepts play a key role in much of modern life.
“What’s STEM Got To Do With It?” Posters will explore the STEM concepts at the Fair. STEM posters will be located across the fairgrounds and will highlight the STEM behind many of the Fair’s most popular and common activities. Some poster topics include:
- Physics of the Midway
- Parking Lot Math
- High Tech Fair
- It’s In Your Genes
- Milking Parlor
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Stem on-a-stick
- Ag Engineering
- Stage Science

The emphasis on STEM will also be a prominent featured of the Nebraska’s Largest Classroom Days, held on Aug. 25th, 26th and the 28th when thousands of young Nebraskan’s will descend on the Fair along with their classmates for hands on learning experiences.
On the Fair’s last weekend, August 31st, Science Discovery Day will be held at the Family Fun Activity Center. STEM table top activities will be available throughout the day. These activities include Tower Building, Electricity, Robotics, Astronaut Challenge, Launch It, Action Reaction, Comet on a Stick, Solar Scopes, Block Area and Rockets.
